Clara Shepherd Interview: Volunteer of the Month

We are so happy to announce our Volunteer of the Month: Clara Shepherd!

Clara has been with TimeGivers since the very beginning, and there isn’t a volunteering activity she attends without her husband, Theo, and their three wonderful children by her side. A true advocate for social change, Clara believes that if we don’t teach our children to be kind and resilient, then what are we really doing?

Clara became our very first TG Lead because of her dedication to volunteering, inspiring others to follow in her footsteps. TG Leads are instrumental in leading some of our groups and events, as well as guiding our lovely adult volunteers. Look out for Clara at our upcoming events!

She’s always spreading the message of TimeGivers, giving her time and energy to every cause. Whether it’s joining in on litter picks, teaching cooking skills at our TG Giving-Back Clubs or lending a hand at our larger events, Clara is always up for a new challenge - we can't wait to see what she does next!

Rain or shine, you can count on Clara to be there with her family, because she believes in the importance of what we’re doing. And we couldn’t agree more. Thank you, Clara, for your love, support and everything you do for us. We appreciate you!

Q: How did you first hear about TimeGivers?

A: I first heard about TimeGivers when it was a tiny seed in Kate's head. I knew it was a fantastic and much needed idea and I couldn't wait for Kate to launch it!

Q: How do you think volunteering with TimeGivers has impacted you?

A: I Iove that I can volunteer with TimeGivers on a flexible basis. The people I have met within the communities that TimeGivers work with are always so inspiring. But most importantly, it is all about the children who volunteer on the projects. It is a privilege to see them not only learn new skills and gain more awareness, but give back to their community and learn the importance of volunteering.

Q: What do you think is the benefit of TimeGivers for young people?

A:  I think it is just huge. If every child had access to a volunteering platform like TimeGivers, without a doubt the world would be a more empathetic and compassionate place. When a child volunteers they learn so many new skills which in turn builds their confidence and self-esteem. But most importantly, when a child volunteers with TimeGivers they learn the value of helping others.

Q: Do you remember a particularly special moment?

A: When my three children said to me, 'not another litter pick!', I knew I was onto something worthwhile with them! They have picked up SO much litter in the past 18 months on TimeGivers Litter Picks, they now fully understand the negative impact to our community of careless littering. On a more serious note, through volunteering at TimeGivers my children have really understood the value of helping others, and that is priceless.

Q: Why do you like working with TimeGivers?

A: To be able to help children give back to their community and spend less time looking at a screen is my small part to help the world become a better place!
