From the moment Bingqing joined TimeGivers, she brought an immediate sense of enthusiasm and adaptability. Since then, she has immersed herself in almost every aspect of our work - from baking clubs and arts and crafts sessions to intergenerational visits, environmental projects, multiple Giving Back Days, and supporting mosaic workshops for our Feltham mural project.
We feel very lucky to have met her. Often travelling across London to take part, Bingqing consistently arrives with a smile and a willingness to get stuck in. She is a natural role model for the young people she supports, showing what active, hands-on volunteering really looks like.
Her energy, kindness and dedication make her a core part of the TimeGivers community - a vital part of the support network that helps our programmes thrive in schools.
Here, she shares her reflections on volunteering and why giving back matters to her.
Q: How did you first hear about TimeGivers?
“I first heard about TimeGivers right after I graduated. It naturally caught my eye while I was browsing opportunities through my community volunteer centre and looking for something fun, meaningful and fulfilling to do.”
Q: How do you think volunteering with TimeGivers has impacted you?
“Volunteering with TimeGivers has given me some of my most enjoyable and memorable moments. I never feel like I am giving up my time; if anything, I receive even more in return.”
“Through the experience, I have gained a deeper understanding of the importance of volunteering and the impact it can have on young people. It has also strengthened my belief in doing the right thing and contributing positively to the community.”
Q: What do you think is the benefit of TimeGivers for young people?
“TimeGivers provides an incredible platform for young people, especially for activities they might not otherwise have access to. I remember that when I was in school, volunteering opportunities were very limited, often because of complexity or safeguarding issues. Here, the staff centre young people in everything they do, providing the support needed to make these experiences truly possible.”
“More importantly, TimeGivers not only offers a wide range of joyful and engaging activities, but also emphasises the value of volunteering and giving back to the community. It helps young people build confidence, develop a sense of purpose, and feel proud of their contributions.”
Q: Do you remember a particularly special moment?
“I remember many little moments. I loved reading the words they wrote, full of innocence, kindness and warmth for someone they hadn’t even met. I loved seeing their excitement and pride: showing me a cool piece of litter they picked up, explaining their handkerchief designs in front of the class, or simply focusing wholeheartedly on an activity.”
“These small interactions, smiles and achievements stay with me and remind me why this work is so meaningful.”
Q: Why do you enjoy volunteering with TimeGivers?
“The environment and opportunities that TimeGivers creates are truly energising. I feel valued and supported by the friendly atmosphere, the dedicated TimeGivers staff, and the wonderful school teachers.
“I have learned so much from everyone, and it is a space where I feel both inspired and appreciated.”
Bingqing’s warmth, consistency and commitment make her an invaluable part of the TimeGivers community. Her reflections capture exactly what volunteering with TimeGivers is about: connection, confidence and the power of giving back.
