Volunteer Spotlight: Bisola Ojo

Bisola first joined TimeGivers as an Adult Volunteer at our Giving Back Day with Kensington Aldridge Academy in 2025. A year on, she continues to be a valued part of the TimeGivers volunteer community, returning to support our third consecutive Giving Back Day at KAA and welcoming a new group of Year 7 students.

Since joining us, Bisola has embraced every opportunity to get involved. Whether supporting conversations about community, encouraging young people to take part or helping activities run smoothly, she brings energy, kindness and a genuine commitment to making a difference.

Despite balancing a busy life, Bisola continues to show up for young people and their communities whenever she can. Her consistency and enthusiasm are what make her such a valued member of our volunteer network.

One of the moments that has stayed with Bisola is seeing the connection between young people and older generations during care home visits. Watching students sit alongside elderly residents, sharing conversations and creative activities together, highlights the simple but powerful impact of bringing different generations together.

Bisola’s journey is a reminder that volunteering doesn’t always have to involve a huge commitment to create meaningful change. Small acts of kindness, time and connection can have a lasting impact on both individuals and communities.

Finding Connection Through Volunteering

Bisola first discovered TimeGivers through Caritas Westminster after seeing information at Westminster Cathedral.

Reflecting on her experience, she shared how volunteering has helped her feel more connected to the community around her:

“It’s made me feel much more connected with my community. It’s also opened my eyes to just how impactful small, simple acts can be, especially when you're working with children and the elderly.”

“You don't have to do something huge to make a real difference in someone's day.”

Why Volunteering Matters for Young People

For Bisola, one of the most important parts of TimeGivers is seeing young people develop confidence, empathy and a sense of purpose through giving back.

“I think it gives them a real sense of purpose and achievement. It helps them bond with their peers, think of others, and learn the art of giving and empathy - qualities that stay with them for life.”

Through TimeGivers, young people are given opportunities to step outside the classroom, connect with their communities and discover the positive impact they can have on others.

A Memorable Moment

For Bisola, some of the most meaningful experiences have come from seeing young people connect with older members of their community:

“One that really stays with me is seeing the joy on the faces of the elderly when the kids join them at care homes, especially when they sit down together and draw.”

“That intergenerational connection is just beautiful to witness.”

These moments show how volunteering can bring people together, creating connections that might not otherwise happen.

“I enjoy it because it allows me to give my time to a worthy cause. I love helping children become more helpful to their community and watching them grow with empathy.”
