Volunteer Spotlight: Parul Patel

Parul joined TimeGivers through a connection at Chiswick School after expressing a strong interest in volunteering with young people. From her very first session, it was clear she would be a valuable part of our team.

Parul brings a calm, thoughtful presence to every activity she supports. She has a particular gift for working with English as an Additional Language (EAL) students, using gentle, creative approaches to help every child feel included and understood.

Alongside her work in sessions, Parul consistently goes above and beyond behind the scenes — coordinating with other volunteers, sourcing materials and helping ensure activities run smoothly across different teams and schools.

Supporting Young People with Care and Creativity

Parul’s approach combines creativity with a strong sense of organisation and care. Whether she is supporting a workshop or helping facilitate a recycling project, she helps create an environment where students feel confident to take part and express themselves.

Her presence is especially impactful for students who may need additional time or support to engage, helping them feel settled and encouraged throughout the session.

Volunteer Reflection

Parul first heard about TimeGivers through Chiswick School:

"Chiswick School put me in touch with Kate as I really wanted to work with young people."

When asked about her experience, she shared:

"I love connecting with my community and TimeGivers has given me a wonderful opportunity to do this."

The Impact on Young People

Parul believes volunteering helps young people build confidence and self-worth:

"It gives young people a chance to feel good about themselves - it’s such a gift to be able to help others."

A Powerful Moment

One of Parul’s most memorable experiences came during a workshop on welcoming refugees and asylum seekers, in partnership with the charity Conversation Over Borders.

Students were asked to write letters of welcome, and while some found it challenging due to English being a second language, they were determined to take part. Two students chose to draw their message instead, putting real effort and care into expressing kindness in their own way.

Parul reflected on the moment:

"It was so moving because it took a lot of effort, but they did it."
