Carol Murraine Interview: Teacher of the Month

Here is a few reasons why we have selected Carol Murraine as our Teacher of the Month!

Kate first met Carol at an event where Carol gave a speech about her grandmother and the values she passed down to her grandchildren. The story was so touching that Kate went up to Carol afterwards and asked if they could be friends - and they have remained so ever since!

Carol kindly invited Kate and Morgane to spend a day at the Eastside Young Leaders' Academy, where they got to meet Carol, her fellow teachers, and the amazing young students who attend every Saturday. Kate has visited many places, but this one stood out. The Academy's commitment to transforming these children's lives by building confidence, promoting positive cultural identity and encouraging citizenship really left a mark.

Carol was immediately drawn to TimeGivers, especially since one of the academy’s core values is community service - something we’re all about! Kate was invited to speak to the kids about giving back, and she had the most amazing morning talking to them about how they see themselves creating positive change in their communities. It’s a morning she’ll never forget.

The connection between TG and ESLA is growing strong, and we’re so excited to be starting our volunteering journey together - ensuring the young drive the change they want to see! Keep an eye out for our half-term plans…

Thank you, Carol, for being an incredible advocate for change and a role model for the children. We appreciate all you do and we can’t wait to create more memories with you!

Q: How did you first hear about TimeGivers?

A: I first heard about TimeGivers from Kate Deighton, founder of this incredible charity following the Stowe Change100 fundraising event at The House of Commons. I was invited as the keynote speaker.

Q: Why do you think TimeGivers will be beneficial for the Eastside Young Leaders' Academy?

A: TimeGivers is such a perfect fit for Eastside because it not only empowers young people to manage their time more effectively through volunteering but it also nurtures essential life skills like discipline, focus, self-confidence and selflessness. These are qualities that our students, as future leaders will need to thrive, both in school and in life.

Q: Why are you excited about working with TimeGivers?

A: I'm genuinely excited to work with TimeGivers because I’ve seen how transformative and rewarding volunteering  can be. I love seeing students have those "aha!" moments when they realise they can take control of their time and their future through giving. It chimes with our leadership through service programme. It’s empowering and incredibly rewarding. The idea of TimeGivers helping shape young leaders who can make a real difference in their communities makes this opportunity truly special for me.
